I have a 99 Ford Explorer with a V8. Recently I noticed a "misfire" when the engine is running....especially around 35-45 MPH. I took it in to the shop, did a tune up with new plugs, wires etc...but the problem is still there. the shop told me it is most likely a fuel injector #7 has burned up or serously clogged. Has anyone ever had this happened? Are fuel injectors easy to change and if so, does anyone have instructions? could it be something else? Help!

It most likely is. My friend has a 99 and went through the same issue. They are easy to replace, i did it for him, but it all depends on your mech know how. hope it helps. Just have them bathed, and while at it get them all done too. it costs 64.00 at midas.
hope it helps.

thanks for the feedback. I tried a couple of cleaners over the last couple of months and no change. it still misses and hesitates, even more so under load. I guess i will have to take it under teh knife and replace the injectors.

anyone have a step by step guide they can share?

I would replace the injectors last.

Check to make sure you have no intake leaks. One major area is the intake manifold.

You'd be best off taking it to a ford dealer and paying them to diagnose the problem instead of pouring money into the wrong area.

Good luck,
Matt

BG 44K is the only fuel system cleaner you should use. It's about 20 bucks a little bottle, but it works really well. Now, 5.0s are known for putting a hole through #8 piston because of wiring routing. Hopefully that isn't your problem. It would be nice to be able to hook up a scan tool and see what the computer was doing. Good luck with your misfire.
