This happened twice this am; I was parking in a lot, I stepped on the brake, put the shift into drive stepped on the gas, the engine started racing then quieted down and all was well I thought.(I thought I might have hit the gas accidental like. A couple of minutes later, I was trying to leave the parking lot, the same thing happened only it was already in drive and I had driven about 50 feet. Damned near ran into a tree trimming truck. Anyone got any ideas??? (The engine was racing with no pressure on the accelerator and my foot on the brake pedal) just to be clear.
Thanks

Are you sure a sliver of your show wasn't on the accelerator? I've done that...

Yeah, did you recently get new boots or flip flops?

Yeah, I've done it that way also. If it wasn't for the 2 time, I would've just felt stoopid and let it go. I've been all through the "shift/accelerate" program and can't find anything wrong. I carry a .45 so if it happens again, I will fix it.
Thanks guys:D

Maybe it's really a Toyota? LOL

Is it accelerating from Idle, or just staying where it was from when you were driving?

Possibly a sticking throttle or throttle cable?

My "finding" is that IF you have time to release and re-apply your brakes, the engine rev will disappear...!! of course, you have to notice this in time to find the time to carry out the action without hitting anything.... very scary when it happens. Mine usually gets to around 2500-3000 rpm when an instance occurs.

Yeah, I noticed movement of the throttle cable when watching it thru the windshield under the hood (hood up of course) I will find out tomorrow if that has anything to do with it.

Budwich; it does return to 'idle' after I return from never never land and all seems normal.

Thanks for your interest & help.

Floor mat riding up?

I had this happen a few times when the IAC was going bad. But honestly, if it happens again look to make sure nothing is touching the gas pedal and your foot isn't hitting both pedals (this has happened to me too, but I got wide feet)

I don't think that the occurances have anything to do with the gas pedal itself as the engine is previously not running at an high rpm and the "carpet monster" has not been depressing it further to cause the rpm increase. In a "carpet instance", the pedal would most likely stay locked at a given rpm, since the "monster" doesn't have much "muscle mass"... :-)
The problem appears to manifest itself as a vacuum or manifold pressure issue.... perhaps a leak in the master booster. The brakes themselves are fine other than having to instinctively press even hard to prevent the vehicle from "taking off". Personally, its scary... especially in icy conditions...... I feel sorry for toyota owners... :-) I don't expect much from fords or chevs for that matter (ex s10 owner).
My events seemed to occur at random (not often) and at mid range to warmer temps.
