I am going to be taking my 98 5.0 engine to a rebuild shop soon. Does anyone have experience with any of the shops in the Phoenix area?

pick up an autotrader and they list a bunch of places downtown that do complete swaps with warranty for the cheapest. Is it toast or are you going for power? I've heard prodyno does good work

I don't know yet. I just fell into this vehicle, a 1998 Eddie Bauer 5.0 AWD, and didn't exactly know where to start. Then, the engine began knocking and when I did a compression test, #2 was very bad dry and only slightly improved wet (60 psi dry, 90 wet). All others were 150 dry and 170 wet. So, I figured this was a sign to start with the engine. I have spoken to a few of the rebuild shops and Engine House seems to have a good balance of price and expertise. Was thinking a slightly upgraded cam, the online tech at Crane recommended 444212 (.3313 lift at cam & 262/270 duration). Anything else would be add on later. Looks like everyone likes the Torque Monster headers and KKM intake.
After I finish the engine, I was gonna install the Warrior shackles in the rear and do a TT for the front. Then maybe a 2" body lift. Later, a 4x4 Tcase and who knows what else.

This will be my daily driver, but I only drive 7 miles to work 4x per week. I've got a ton of research to do to plan this whole thing out, but it will be fun. I'd love any suggestions.

Basko in Gilbert. Talk to Ray. 480-921-1128 One of the finest machine shops in the country. In-house dyno, the whole bit. They build a lot of pro stock motors, boat motors, etc. These guys know what they are doing and their work is beyond reproach. They aren't cheap...and they aren't fast. But you will get your money's worth and then some. I wouldn't consider any other machine shop for my work.
