Hey everyone, So, I blew a piston on the highway tonight so I decided to take the engine out and rebuild. But, how do you get the engine out? I looked at it, and it is just a mess with wires and hoses, etc. Can someone give me a run down on what is needed to remove the engine. If you could, it would be great.

Thanks,
Andy

I don't mean to sound like an @ss, but basically you have to disconnect everything, undo the motor mounts; decide if you're gonna try to take the tranny out or not (and then either undo the tranny mounts or the bellhousing) and pull it out ;)

Any decent shop manual should have the instructions for an engine pull, and you'll need the book anyway for a motor rebuild. Go out and spend $20 on the book.

If it were me, I'd take as much off the motor as I could while it was still in the truck. If you do this, it should be fairly straightforward to then undo the motor mounts and pull the engine.

bag every nut and bolt and label it, makes reasselbly MUCH easier.

And every wire that you disconnect...could save alot of headache's down the road.

Good luck

Taking a picture of the engine bay beforehand also helps. You can also label every hose end with a numbering sytem, corresponding numbers on either disconnected end.
