Engine replacement question???

I have a 1994 explorer 4.0 auto transmission. It needs a new engine,my question is i can get a great deal on a new 1997 explorer 4.0 engine will it work in my 1994????

if it will work will i need any other parts for it???

The 4.0L ohv will interchange w/ another 4.0L ohv, but not with a 4.0L shoc engine......unless you're planning on spending big bucks and modifications.

The 97 is OBD II, so the 94 electronics will need to be used. Most differences between those engine years are internal upgrades, but one noticeable exception is the flexplate having 8 bolts in 97, so be sure to get the flexplate included with the engine.
