I have a 95 explorer sport and when I restart the car after driving for 30 minutes or so, the engine shakes and almost dies.I have to press the gas pedal to make it go back to normal. if i let it sit over night it's fine the next morning.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have replaced the ect sensor about a week ago.
the car has new ignition coil, plugs and wires. Also replaced the fuel filter. Cleaned the maf and iac and has a flowmaster muffler. None of these have fixed the problem.

I am not sure where to start looking.... fuel pressure maybe?

How many miles do you have on you're Ex? How long does it sit before you restart it? Sounds like one or more of you're fuel injectors is leaking. I had similar problems on my until I replaced the injectors. It doesn't take much fuel in the cylinders to flood the engine. I also replaced the MAF sensor because after awhile cleaning it becomes worthless.

Previous post is a good "candidate" (injectors). I have similar problem which I perhaps attribute to poor pressure... probably the pump. In my case, I tend to run on a low gas tank as it doesn't make much "sense" carrying around "extra" gas in a metro area. I further found on one occasion to have a "misfire code" showing up in and around the same time as one of my worst "events". Checked plugs / wires, both appear to be fine... but the "poor initial startup" event still happens in the similar form as you have described. I haven't had the "energy" to replace the pump which is original. My next thought would be as you suggest, fuel pressure test but ain't been there yet. Hope you find it.... then maybe we both will be happy... :-)

i have 109,x.. miles on it. prob after 20 min to 45 min after turning it off it will do it. I actually cleaned the maf sensor, thinking that may have helped but it didnt, I also figured the ect would have help but that was a no go also. I havnt gotten around to checking fuel pressure yet.

If an injector was leaking wouldnt it do the same in the am after sitting for over 10 hours?

my check engine light doesnt come on when this happen. figured id mention that also

I agree with your "if it was a leaky injector, wouldn't I have problems over night"... same condition as me, starts fine after longer periods of "down time"... my "leaning" is its my pump... :-(

I am sooo hoping it's a not the fuel pump, I live in an association and i would never hear the end of it if I dropped the tank in a the parking lot... i m not paying a shop to do it when it's something i know how to do.

I want to make the access panel to the pump but alittle dangerous with the tank right underneath.

i m thinking the fuel pump is worn out. it gets hot after driving for awhile and doesnt work as well, and when i start it up it's still warm and doesnt pump the fuel out properly.

seems logical right?

yes but before you get carried away, I would try do a pressure test to confirm the "guess".

yeah I will def do that soon! I dont want to wait and end up being stuck on the side of the road cuz the pump went bad hahaha
