Whats up guys.
I just got back a few hours ago from a 4 month deployment and was greeted with some not so good news.
After reconnecting the battery, my 08 V8 Explorer with 79,000miles started up like she had just been running a few minutes earlier. However, when I drove away, I noticed it was sputtering whenever I was accelerating. The noise sounds somewhat like a piston not firing, but the power loss isn't as big as I would expect it to be if one was out. Idling is fine. It doesn't sound strange and the rpm's are steady.
I ran the tank damn near dry before I got deployed, but I didn't mix anything in to the remaining fuel for storage.
I already put some Fuel Injector cleaner in when I filled her up and i'm gonna sea foam the truck first thing tomorrow morning along with an oil change and new spark plugs.

My question is, what do you guys think could be causing the problem? The truck is on an island in the pacific, this place is very humid and subject to a crapload of rain and salty air.
Is there anything else I should be adding to my maintenance list?

Any codes ?
Plugs and coils come to my mind first. I went thru few sets already, and you do not get 30x code unless it's a major misfire on these engines, in a meantime a coil is bad but not bad enough to trigger the code.

I would visually check if a rat chew a cable if it´s ok then I would change the fuel flter.

I would not seafoam the truck, it is a waste of money in my mind for what sounds like water in the #8 spark plug well since it was parked for so long.

No codes yet. I'll add coils to the list though.

I'll check that out for sure. would be awesome to have the problem be something that simple.

Cables all appear to be intact.
Fuel filter sounds like a good idea. I've had this truck for almost 20,000 miles and haven't changed it. and who knows how long its been in there before me buying it.
