Hello all and thank you for any help. I have a 1996 explorer 4.0 liter push rod engine that lately has been giving problems starting. It isnot allof the time but is becoming more regular. When you first attempt to start the engine ,earlymorning or just getting out of a store, the engine fires off then begins to spit and sputter before dying. It then is difficult to get started. If you are able to recognise what is happening quick enough you can press the gas pedal hard over and over and the engine will continue to run. Once the engine is running it runs fine, no skip, power loss or anything.
