So all of a sudden out of the blue my 2006 4.6L Explorer went **** up. Friday night it drove fine, Saturday morning, busted. Hesitating big time when you hit the gas, low power when you try to accelerate, shifting hard, and even stalled on me when trying to accelerate from a stop this morning.
It's throwing codes (P0172, P0175, and P061B) Both banks Rich, and

“P061B - Internal Control Module Torque Calculation Performance
Description: Indicates a calculation error occurred in the powertrain control module (PCM).
Possible Causes:
Diagnostic Aids: Check for sensor and circuit related DTCs. Do not install a new electronic throttle body (ETB) for this DTC.”

A little research says it might be the MAF or the TPS. I took it to the shop this morning, they cleared the codes and it apparently ran fine. I have a bad feeling that this is an intermittent failure.

I had read about some people having wiring harness issues. I undid the loom back about 6" on the TPS, and the wires were fine. The MAF was clean.
Both the shop and I are at a loss right now. I hate to just start throwing parts at it.

Any suggestions?

I cannot remember the correct name off the top of my head (not enough coffee yet!), but back track the wires from the COPs to the controller. My thought is that it is in that area since it is very hard to get these vehicles to throw a misfire code. See this link also, that I got from another thread from this forum that has other possibilities: http://repairpal.com/OBD-II-Code-P0172-and-P0175

I'm going to update this one with the hope it helps someone in the future.
I struggled with this problem on and off for a year. I would think it was solved, and a month later it would return. It would throw the P061B internal torque calculation error code, get the wrench light on the dash, and then I'd get P0172 and P0175 for the banks being rich because it was misfiring. Problems with the engine stumbling at stops, idle super low, shifting badly, even some stalling.

I replaced the motor and TPS sensor on the throttle body, the MAF sensor (more than once), the VCT solenoids, swapped around spare spark plugs and coils, changed the crank position sensor.

I had it into the Ford dealer twice and all they came up with is a vacuum leak on the intake manifold (legitimate vacuum leak above the runner throttle plates), which I replaced and the MAF. The problem never seemed to stay in at the right time for them to troubleshoot.

Well last month it came in and didn't seem to be going away. So I had it towed to a different Ford dealer and they discovered the PCM had a bunch of comminication errors. IE it wasn't talkign correclty with the other on board computers and probably the gas pedal and throttlebody. I ordered a rebuilt PCM from Flagship1 online, I had the dealer swap it and reprogram my keys, and now it seems she is running great. I guess only time will tell if the problem comes back, but I'm hopeful I have it beat this time.
