Engine? Trans? I donno

Got a 01 XLT 124k. Couple days ago problems arise. Start up engine, drive up to around 30mph and tach jumps up from 2500 rpm to 3500rpm for a quick second to shift into the next gear, then back to 2500 rpm. Any advice? Never did this before. Tranny going bad?

Sounds like the usual "shift flare" in the transmission.. typically between 2nd and 3rd gear.

Search around for something like "shift flare" and I'm sure you'll come up with tons of info.
