I've found an engine off 2000 explorer and planning to use it on my 2000 ranger. The X has 30K miles and there is no sign of leak anywhere. The front front end damage, the only sign of damage to the engine is cracked water pump. I am going to change with new pump anyway as well as rear end seal and new clutch kit.

The question is, what else should I do before installing the motor back onto the truck? ??????

thanks in advance..

Check the timing chain. I believe there was a recall on the timing chain, so either go ahead and replace it or call up Ford and see if you do need to change it over. I mean, if everything looks to be in good shape, then swap it in. Just make sure you look at everything and make sure it looks decent/good. Pull the drain pan off and see what you have in there, clean the strainer and just make sure nothing looks odd. Maybe someone else will give you some exact details for that engine.

Thanks for the info, Drew. Did you have your timming change replace? My truck has 116K miles on it and I don't think Ford want anything to do with it. I will certainly take the oil pan off and check on the oil strainer. I was even thinking of replacing it with new oil pump since it off the vehicle.

I've talked to a couple of shops and they all claimed that my crank shaft bearing is about to take a hike. I guess it the neglect from the previous owner. Drove the living day light out of that motor and does not change the oil.
