Engine troubles.

Hi, this is my first post so i apologize if i have made any errors, i just inherited a 98 Explorer Limited 5.0 V8, the check engine light is on and an autozone computer has diagnosed it as a 1st cylinder misfire, also it vibrates, and at substantially high RPM for long durations-the check engine light flashes at me untill i go down to idling RPM, gas mileage has definitely suffered going from 17 mpg city before the check engine light, to 9 mpg now. Is there still hope of fixing the engine, or should i find another 5.o from a junkyard and replace it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you
