I have a 96 4.0L and I'm looking to upgrade my MAF. What are my options for the 4.0 engines and of these options which is the best performing one? Should I replace the electronics in the MAF or does that not really matter? I know that C&L just uses the factory sensor. Does it matter if the MAF is made for a diffferent model type, for example can I use a MAF designed for a 4.6L on my 4.0L?

The MAF will not give you any huge performance gains. It just reads the air flow, all it probably needs is just a cleaning. The stock MAF is usually sufficient unless you are running boost or something.

Which 4.0L Is it, the OHV or SOHC?

For the OHV, I know you can get a Vortech 73mm from Summit. I planned on going with the '93 Mustang Cobra MAF on my OHV as it's a 70mm and a direct bolt (better then stock 55mm). I believe the '94-'95 Mustang GT & Cobra MAF is also a 70mm and will work as a bolt on. Also I believe the MAF off the 5.0 Exploders work to but I think you have to wire two of the wires together or something. Not really sure.

As for the SOHC, I have no clue.

Like bp1506 said, MAF alone will not do much for you without other mods. Unless you have other mods... :D

I didn't figure the sensor in the MAF would actually do much, but the MAF itself if larger will provide better results then the stock version. Aldive do you know if a 4.6L MAF from C&L will work on a 4.0L?

What you need is a 73mm like I have. Contact Doug at Bama Chips; he will give you the details.

Good luck ....
