I will try to find the article on how to access it on the focus. Since the 3rd gen explorer and the 2nd gen focus were in production at about the same time.

did nothing on my 03 Mounty w/Message Center

Here is a quote from the original post in the 2006+ section.

Ive done this in my 04 Explorer. not sure if I saw all the same parameters but I do remember seeing the coolant temp, speed, compass, and temp and thought it was pretty cool to see it in digital format.

So there is definitely a way on 04's+, the same year as the focus I originally found this on. I wasn't able to find that post on the focus forum though.

Maybe it doesn't work if you have the message center??

How long after you turn the key to on do you have to hold the reset button??

worked for me.

'04 xlt 4.0 4x4 without message center.

i pressed down on trip reset button and turned ignition key to the accessory position. i continued pressing button for only a few more seconds and the word 'test' appeared in the odometer/trip/temp/compass readout window. release, and press the button again and you begin to cycle through the readouts. there were a lot of tests it ran through, but without knowing what it was telling me it was difficult to understand what most of it meant. i was able to cycle through the gauge test where all of the gauges swing through their full range of movement. it was cool to see the speedometer reach 120mph.

all in all a pretty neat thing. but without knowing what the values of all the readouts from all the tests represent, it's useless.
