Are the hooks too far into the bumper? I think it would be better if they stuck out some in case you have to tug at an angle. (like if you were in a ditch)
You just wouldn't want them too far out because it wouldn't be as strong.
Just making sure that you've thought of everything...
Why exactly didn't you just mount them on the end of the frame rails? Why did you want them so far back? Do you have to feed your strap through your bumper to use those?
If you are going to mount two hooks, then you could use this set up with no prob. just as long as you always used both hooks when being towed.. that will spread out the torq and also let you get a more even pull..
I see the fuse being the plate steal. As you start to pull hard and steady on the tow hooks the point of pull is kinda far forward and to the side of the rear bolt. I would think that the plate steal would be what would bend and could break. Jut weld up a T and then have the lower part of the T go to the side under the frame. Then you sould be all set!

I didn't want to cut the bottom of my bumper like you ended up doing. I ended up not using these brackets and I bought some tow hooks off of a 89 Chevy S10 and bolted those to the inside of the frame rails. Yes, I have to reach through the bumper to pull. I figured that a hidden hook was better than no hook and most of time i'll just pull from the rear and call it a day.
Cool, I was just asking not knocking ya or anything. I see now that you have the 2" BL instead of the 3" also, so ya you would have had to cut a big chunk of bumper off the bottom. Your right too, any pull point is better than none and I don't use my front ones very often. I do have a suggestion though. If you have hooks on both sides, get yourself a short length of chain or a tree saver and if you have to use the front ones, you can hook the chain up so it hangs out the front of the bumper and you shouldn't have to worry about tweaking your bumper or anything... know what I mean?
I have the 2" BL but my bumpers are raised 3" so I'm in the same boat as you are. And yes, I was thinking the same thing about the tree strap and using both front hooks. Really, I doubt I'll run something so extreme that I can't tow from the rear. I guess coming out of a hole and getting high centered would be a good place to tow from the front. Problem is, I'm the biggest truck of all of my friends, so I'm always first and I'm always doing the pulling. Stupid stockers and their hesitance to modify
hokie... I hadn't even seen this thread when I had talked to you about my tow hook placement thinger. weird.
question about having it come through your front bumper... if you pull someone at a bit of an angle, wont it put pressure on the bumper itself? (I dunno how much moving room there is through that vent)
I know its soo wierd when you don't use the SEARCH function and just ask me stupid questions all the time

Huh? Computer Science, we went over this last night. Trust the mechanical engineer and don't think
Not sure by what you mean by putting 'pressure' on the bumper but yes, if I put a strap on my hooks, the strap will touch the bumper, but it won't cause any problems unless you're pulling straight up on the friggin' thing (which is a big !)
Did you see me post about it? i don think so! that was just floating an idea w/ a friend. about the bumper... if you're pulling another ex, even the slightest angle with the bumper would apply a good amount of force I would think.
and last night we talked about the REAR bumper, not the front. I dont think the front bumper has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs =P
hey i searched for tow hooks, and i found ALOT of stuff about how to do it...however very little on a 91-94. looking under the truck today i see they can be mounted to the frame, and i hope i dont have to take the front bumper off, but i think i gonna have to though. ah well i may as well t has "ford bumper sag" but removing the front valance mght be manditory to use the hooks unless iwant to rip off the valance when i use the hooks. sound right to you guys?
I really am not trying to sound like an ass, but there is TONS of info on mounting tow hooks. I found all of this by searching and sorting through threads ~ about 5 minutes.
