2018 Limited Explorer
I just took delivery on a 2018 Explorer Limited 3.5 V6 with 52,000 miles. I have read of the catastrophic water pump issues so I am thinking about purchasing an ESP plan to cover me to 125K. I would just get the basic powertrain coverage. I read here that there are some different versions of the water pump to make it last longer but from what I have read the 2018 is in the same boat as the older ones - hence my concern.

Thoughts? ESP or pass?

Cost?
How much for better warranty?
It's not a guarantee it will fail for you. Other things will likely need to be replaced (ie maintenance parts like struts maybe).

The water pump is a hit or miss item. No one has been able to diagnose if or when it will fail. It's a gamble at this point. If it were me, I'd get the ESP since it will cover various items. Ford ESP at dealer cost to forum members
It's a bit like an insurance policy.

I just had my water pump replaced under ESP. 2015 Explorer XLT @102K. I just made it lucky me. Idk if the techs are getting better but I dropped my car off at 7:30AM and it was done by 2PM, which I thought it took at least 10-16 hours
