EVAP problems?pressure relese from gas cap

I have a 96 4.0
i have pressure relese from my gas cap making a farting noise, folowed by an idle surge.
I have done all the common idle repairs then did them a second time to make sure they were right. but i belive it has to do with the VMV (vapour management valve)
ive been looking it over for leaks bad hoses ect, nothing yet has anyone else delt with this?
im gonna try running with it disconected to see what happens...

i finaly got the problem solved for anyone else with a 96 with this problem....
i just went to the junk yard and took a vapor management valve from a 97.
its slightly different so it makes me wonder if the there was a defect on the 96 VMV.

hey man im having the same problem on my 98 X sport. I get the farting cap but show no idle problems. could you put what u did in more detail? id appreciate it.
