So I ran out of gas the other day. I got some gas back in her she started and dove just fine for a block then died. I turned to key to the on position for 25 sec a couple time no start. Towed it to the ford dealership it started right up. They let it run for 4 hours then went for a test drive and 2 miles later it died. Can anyone give me ideas? They said the only thing they can think is there is a short somewhere. Then they said I might need to replace the main wiring harness. Can anyone shed light on this?PLEASE

Bet ya cooked the fuel pump. Usually happens when one spends more time with the gauge below a quarter of a tank. If you keep over half they tend to last a lot longer.

Check the fuel pressure at the rail under load, like mentioned it is most likely either the fuel pump or the fuel filter since running it empty can suck up all kinds of junk off the bottom of the tank. Most likely you need to replace both. To me it sounds like vapor lock... I had a vehicle that would run/idle forever with not an issue at all, but run it under load for about 45 minutes and then it would cut out but would run fine again after 5-10 minutes of letting the engine cool off some. It ended up being the fuel pump was borderline on the pressure and would eventually drop too low under load after a while, talk about frustrating since I replaced the fuel filter first thinking that was the problem and it helped it run longer but didn't take care of the problem.
