Ex is back from garage - desperate to drive it, but I cannot - help please

Unsecured fluid container saddens me - such a waste of the precious stuff - at least it was only a damp patch and not a flood.

As for a loose ring during pressure testing, thats one thing I also hope I never experience, as I pressure test quite often.

All I can say in response between laughter is- never back probe!

thankfully, on my travels, cabin pressure has never caused that to happen to me...

but I have the power of youth on my side...

Si

Si, the trouble is cold weather weakens rings, and as H says, cabin pressure is also a major factor. Just be careful on your next flight - can't afford a leak when you land. Sometimes youth does not come into it....

..............also don't think of this conversation when you land - laughing can have a terrible effect. Remember, there are other people around!!!

Thats cold!!!!!
On a more serious note regarding the Explorer, I once had a left-handed prong winder stuck in my ring (the revised version 2b of the flux pack now has a right-handed prong winder). When the code reader was plugged in, everything went crazy - just gave out one error code 000000000000000h

well, it's minus 22 right now... and so far, it's still working...

it might be that the ring is frozen and as soon as it warms up it might free it up causing a major breach ending up in a full loss of fluids ...at which point you will have to take emergancy measures and block the leak with some sort of plug .......some say a small fire extinguser will do the job or even a boot

sorry for the spelling....hope this helps

Si it seems given the risk factors mate-- its best to stay where you are!
What with ring leaks, bursts and leakage, hell I would not get on a plane!!!
Lol Its so funny how its all turned to Si!
And he is cooking bloody bacon and eggs with hair and grease at this time......I know- I have just hreard from him on Fb

I know we got a bit "off subject" on this one, but just wanted to thank all of you for your help and advice. Problem is still intermittent, but I will get there in the end.

BTW have been fancying eggs and bacon all day since you mentioned it, H - stuck at work with just a bag of crisps does not help.

Richard

Hope you sort it soon mate! We have to get together soon for a pub lunch- can you imagine the laugh we will have!?

Couldn't agree more H. A good sense of humour keeps us all going in this day and age!!!

in all seriousness if you do figure out what's causing the gear shift to stick in park please post your findings as mine does do it now and then .....if I figure it out ill do the same

Hmm will look into it guys- I cant help thinking its the switch.........I will have a look at mine- suspect a good spray with some contact cleaner would probably do the trick.

Beginning to wonder how the lock works - can I assume it is the system that locks the transmission by engaging a pawl in a notch (possibly not the correct technical terms, I am afraid). The reason I ask this is because I appear to have more of a problem if parking on a slope and putting it in park without using the actual handbrake. Is there possibly too much pressure on the pawl to release it, as it does not release also when the key is in the off position, like it should. From earlier comments, it should then definitely release as the solenoid is not operating in this position. Hope this lot makes sense.

iv always used the brake with the key on 2 to unlock it out of parking, iv not tried it in the off position or 1.

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that it mentions in the handbook that if you are having difficulty getting out of park, stop the engine and leave the key in position 1 (think its 1 - the position where ignition is off, yet the key cannot be removed). Then you should be able to put it in neutral and then start the engine. However, I still cannot get it out of park sometimes doing this.
