which flowmasters or other brand of muffler would you put on an escape? there are kits made, but we would rather go with the cheaper custom bent route. anybody know whats popular on the svt contours or dohc taurus'? or maybe you've owned one of these?

Had a Contour of my own that got totalled. Borla's were a pertty popular choice but a little loud for a few. I had a custom setup on mine. No pre cats going into a single in Vortex muffler to 2 1/4 dulas out the back. IMO and also my buddies with Borla's mine sounded the best. Nice v8 corbra growl at idle and not real ricy and any rpm range. Wish I still had it!

Forgot to mention that with the setup I was running, 2 1/4 duals with a KKM open filter I really added power to the top end. Vary noticeable. Any more questions let me know.

wouldnt 2 1/4 be a bit big for a duel setup on a 3.0 v6? im plannin on going with a 2 1/4 setup on my 5.0 v8. i think the 2 1/4 on the escape would end up losin torque.

cool, thanks. he will be getting an intake and a chip with this first set of mods along with whatever exhaust set-up he decides on. i'm not sure he wants duals though, but its a possibility. can you tell me any more about that muffler you used?

i am planning on suggesting a single 2.5 for him with ------- muffler. i too think that dual 2.25 is a little big unless it was a forced induction situation.

I'd say Magnaflow :D Of course, I always say Magnaflow!

I was in a guys V6 Sho that had dual Flowmasters, and it sounded sweet as hell, but thats a slight different motor;)

My cousin has magnaflows (dual out muffler) on their Escape, the pipes are 2.25" each and exit out the back with Magnaflow tips. Sounds pretty damn nice with a throaty sound, not ricey at all which usually happens on small V6's. There was no loss of low-end either, as the truck still has no problem chirping or burning the tires of the line, that duratec is torquey as hell for it's size.

EDIT -Alec beat me, I agree, something about Magnaflows, I like flowmasters, but ever car I've heard Magnaflows on from Cobras to Tahoes - always has a bad ass exotic sound.

alright, we've gone around in circles a hundred times on the site over which muffler company sounds best. i'm trying to get at something a little different from that here -WHICH MUFFLER SHOULD I SUGGEST? not which company, which exact muffler will sound and perform right on this vehicle? If your a magnaflow guy tell me which magnaflow! or if your a flowmaster guy tell me which flowmaster!

i don't want this to turn into another thread of endless speculations about how different exhaust set-ups sound on random vehicles.

Yes I did loose a little on the bottom end when I added the 2 1/4 duals but for the gain when the secondaries open up at about 3000 it was well worth it. You could be crusing a 55 and punch it and you could deffently feel it. As for the muffler I ordered fom a guy on the contour forums. If your intrested I still am in contact with him and might be able to find out where to get it.

Expo,
People ask me all the time which exact Magnaflow to suggest. They all pretty much sound the same if matched to the engine correctly. The differences are basically overall size, inlet/oulet bore, and offset. I don't know the size constraints for each vehicle or their offsets. You go to your local Magnaflow installer and they put in what you need, plain and simple. To be certified to install Magnaflow, they need to know their **** ;)

Alecs right, Magaflows all sound the same unless you get the Magnapacks. They don't come in a series, just different sizes, there basically all the same muffler. All I know is my cousins is a dual out with 2.25" pipes and Magnaflow tips. It sounds pretty mean, nice and deep with a loud growl when you get on it, I was suprised at how throaty the Duratec can sound, and theres no loss of low end torque.

Also expo5.0, go onto www.stangnet.com and look for or ask somebody there for the Magnaflow member (you'll probably have to register), I'd do it for you but I forgot my login and password. Theres a guy on that board that works for Magnaflow and he answers all the guys questions on what sizes to use and whatnot. Thats how my friend ended up with a Maganflow x-pipe and catback on his 03' Cobra, he talked to this guy and he gave him all the info on what to use.

EDIT -mistake, my bad, my cousin has a Tribute with the Magnaflows, the other has an Escape but no mods, same truck though.
