So I've been noticing my 01' Sport has been getting louder and louder over the past few weeks. I assume something is rusting through on the pipes as my brother's Sport did that same.

If I were to remove the rusted pipe from the under body and drive around loud and proud, would it be safe to just have exhaust being expelled from under my truck?

If not, is there anyway to run a pipe out the back end without welding? I don't own a welder and as a college student I'm in no situation to be able to afford one.

No, it wouldn't be safe and you would be the second to find out after the person you ran into.

What I've done as an emergency measure that actually worked pretty well was to smear some muffler putty on an open up soda can a wrap it around the bad piece of pipe.
Hold it together with screw clamps or even cable ties.

Be warned though, a leaking pipe can leak CO into the cabin and kill you.

You could also get a peice if pipe the same diameter as the exhaust, cut out the rusted section and weld in the pipe to the exhaust.

Take it to a muffler/exhaust place.

Ask them what is the cheapest they would charge to make it stop leaking.

Tell them you don't care about the flex pipe, Cat Converter fittings, etc....

Those guys can just cut the pipe off smooth where the leak is and weld a smooth section of scrap pipe in there. A good welder can do that in 5-10 minutes.

When my flex piece rusted through, I got a shop to replace it with a straight piece for only $35. I know it will last only a few years, but it may just outlast my engine with 262,000 miles on it.

How to fix exhaust without welding?

Find a place that sells exhaust pipes and pieces, take measurements of your current remaining exhaust and piece it together with exhaust clamps.

Welding is the easier way to go but either way you could piece together an exhaust cheaply, even deleting the muffler altogether and straight piping is an option.

One option is to use band clamps at the joints. I used Torca TorcTite EasySeal stainless steel band clamps on my Gibson catback. There are a bunch of different brands, materials, and styles available. When I was looking, I kept running across the stainless Torca ones being mentioned as a good choice. I scored mine new on eBay for cheap.

Exactly! What you younger guys don't know is that cars/trucks up thru the 70's all used clamps. When a pipe or muffler rusted thru, you just cut the clamp and installed a new piece. Didn't have to pay some shop hundreds of dollars to replace the whole system like most will tell you they have to do (liability issues, I guess). I just bought a new dual exhaust system online for my '75 Chevy Laguna S-3 and am using clamps. They work just fine...just don't look as neat and tidy as an all-welded system.
