My V8 5.0L engine on my 97 Mountaineer has the ticking sound coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Ive isolated the problem to the passenger side exhaust manifold and am going to get it replaced. My question is if I am ok to replace just one exhaust manifold? I didnt know if it was ok to run one stock manifold and one aftermarket?

Thanks!

You can only replace one. I've done this numerous times over the years on my 66 Galaxie.

aslong as its an OEM manifold it should be fine but if you are replacing one you might as well replace both and get after market ones like torque monster or bbk

Replacing one manifold is just fine. No use replacing what isn't broken.

I ended up finding a set of Motorsport Headers for a few bucks under what one new manifold/header cost. My 97's driver side was cracked but the passenger side was okay! Need one on the cheap?

Be sure to check that your EGR tube is not cracked before you commit to replacing the manifold. This may be the source of the ticking noise. Read the "sticky" at the top of this forum on EGR tube.

I would just get a set of Torque Monsters. What Ford charges for just 1 manifold is nutz, talk about an butt-raping, and its one of the worst constrictive designs. But if you have the FMS set, their only a tad better than factory, just replace both instead of putting one on and leaving the factory manifold on the drivers side if your going to the passenger anyway.

My Mountaineer was built in 09/96, so the engine doesn't have the EGR tube coming out of the manifold. When I look for replacement parts, all of the manifolds seem to have the opening for the EGR tube (see Dorman part # 674357), even on the replacement manifolds for a 96 explorer with the v8 5.0L 302 cid. Can I use a replacement manifold with the EGR tube opening even though my engine doesn't have the tube now?

No, the ones with the external egr have gt-40p heads, so they wouldn't bolt up correctly.
