I would like to purchase a high flow catback system for my 97 xlt. I have been looking around for a while and the only thing that I can find so far is a system made by borla. Borla sounds like they make a great system by they are also a little pricy. If any of you know of a catback system that fits a 97' please let me know. Also please put the price. Thanks.

I have the same model, 1997 XLT, 4 dr. V6 SOHC. I have a Flowmaster. I like the sound with 3" 3ARacing tip. Price for sure is a little low than Borla.

I didn't even know that flowmaster made a catback system for the 97' explorers. How much did you pay for yours and where did you get it? Another idea here would be to maybe just buy headers and go with pipes coming straight out the back. With no catback system? I'm not exactlly sure if this will work or not cause i don't know very much about exhaust systems. Does anyone have any input here? Would I still get a good amount of hp gain? Would it be better to go with a catback system instead? Would it cost me a lot to have the shop just put pipes on straight off the headers? HELP!

All you need to do is find a competent muffler shop in your area and have them build a cat back for you. I went to Iggy's, a custom muffler shop in Chicago and they built a dual exhaust cat back for me. It looks great and sounds nice. By the way, I have a 97 Sport. They had to do a lot of bending to get it to fit right but, about two and a half hours and $350.00 lighter in the pocket and I got a nice exhaust.
