I am interested in putting some kind of exhaust setup on my 07 ST XLT 4.6 v8.
I'm not looking to get anything exotic. I just want some extra performance without breaking the bank. I currently have a stock setup. I don't know if I should go single or dual exhaust. Definitely Flowmasters.
Any imput would be appreciated. Already popped in a K&N filter.
But anything else dealing with exhaust, I would like to hear what some of you guys have done to your ST. I don't really want it loud, I'm in my 40's, really don't care to draw attention. Just want that nice low growl with some added performance. Thanks, can't wait for the input.:D:D

I've heard flow master delta 50s give a growl but there isn't the annoying resonance that the 40 series are often said to have.

I just installed the cat back stainless 3" Gibson on my truck today and love the sound its not annoying at all , nice low rumble and at 70 MPH on freeway no resonating sound, I have had my truck for 1.5 years and I wish I would have do this right away.:) also I got it from wsd diesel for 403 and some change shipped

Ok, with the K&N air filter that I dropped in my truck 2 weeks ago and having the stock resonator and muffler replaced with a Flowmaster 50, do I need to get my ST tuned after that or is there any special procedure that I need to do?
Again I'm not trying to do anything fancy, just want a little more performance with a little bit more aggressive sound.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you want the computer to learn the mods a little faster just disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so.

Thanks JohnnyO! thought was going to have to spend more money.
I should be good just keeping all the piping the same size? Right?

Yes. My Gibson system is 2.5" all the way. Stock was 2" as I recall. I think their V8 system is 3" because the part numbers are different. It is okay to go from smaller pipe to bigger pipe but you don't want to go from bigger pipe to smaller pipe.

And that's what I did, I kept with the stock size which on mine I believe is 2.5.
I just got the swap done today. I'm so far very pleased. Went to MadHatter Muffler in Pompano FL and had the flowmaster 50 series delta flow muffler pn 52558 installed, replacing the stock resonator & muffler. What a big difference all around. The sound, the performance, just perfect. I was second guessing myself if I really wanted to have it done. Was it going to be too loud, was I going to loose low end torque, and my greatest concern was would my wife going to give me some Roberta over it.
I'm betting I'm going to get better gas mileage out of it as well. I noticed that the RPM's would not go up as high as before. I mean when you give it the gas it goes, but you don't have to punch it. You can casually drive and it stays below 2000rpm's. Before the swap I would take off from a light (normal driving) and the rpm's would shoot above 3500 rpms and I wasn't taking off crazy or anything. But now I take off normal, it stays around or just below 2000rpms. So I definitely feel fuel economy is going to improve. And as for the wife, shes going to have to deal with it. Thumbs up to MaddHatter in Pompano:thumbsup:
They did a great job. And thanks to all the folks like yourself Johnny for all the advice and input you guys put out there:salute:
I really am loving my ST now.
And just for other guys out there with the same setup as me with a V8.
Swap your paper filter to a K&N filter (not a CAI) and swap the stock muffler setup with the FlowMaster 50's and you will be good to go. I haven't even disconnected the battery yet and its still a major improvement.:D

Awesome got any sound clips? I'm looking to put a new muffler in.

Sorry i don't.

:(Maybe I spoke too soon about improved gas mileage. Went to work today which is about 30 miles away. Mostly Highway. The readings I got today were 15.5 miles per gallon. Not good. Think I need to remove battery cable?

Go through a whole tank or 2 of gas before you start judging the mileage differences.

There are a lot of variables that go into gas mileage. I've seen a 6 mpg difference on the same road between going with the wind and against the wind. Disconnect the battery cable. The computer takes longer to learn on its own. I got a definite 3 mpg improvement on the highway. It is rated at 19 highway but I'll get 21 to 23 if I keep it at 65 mph and there aren't too many hills. Hills are rare in FL. I think the highest point in the state is 350' above sea level. Here it's a 350' change in elevation just from one end of my street to the other. :D

I cut my muffler and resonator out and I installed a magnaflow muffler and getting a sct tuner
