I am looking into exhaust options and I am wondering what would be the best for a deep low grumble (specific eh? ;)). I hate the ricer soundtrack with the obnoxious popping and high pitched buzzing sound. NO. a nice deep sound at lower and higher speeds...not much resonance at higher speeds. Should sound like the beast that it is....:D:troops:

Here is a flowmaster original 40 series on my 4.0 SOHC

Flowmaster rusts out too fast and has a bad drone sound. Look at Zabteck Technologies for the Random Technologies y-pipe and high flow cat. I have both, a Magnaflow muffler and dual pipes that me and a buddy bent up and welded in. Most people ask what size V8 I have.

I am running a Super 10 series from Flowmaster (a single chamber exhaust) and have been running this exhaust on my last 3 vehicles...so far this is the best DEEP grumble i have heard from any truck...v6 & v8. It is very deep and strong when accelerating but when cruising the sound goes away and becomes quiet(er) and no drone...i had this on a 4.6l V8 f-150 a 89 k5 4x4 blazer (350tbi v8) and my explorer sport (4.06 v6 sohc). You get a drone in the cab on acceleration but once i am in OD, i get a little sad because i do not hear it over the low volume music (i was used to my k5 which was LOUD). Wish i had a sound clip for you though :P

Thanks Guys!! :)

Do you have everything still stock on the exhaust except for that muffler?

What is the difference between the Original 40 the super 40 an the delta 40?

What magnaflow are you running ?

Do you really like the super 10? I was debating possibly getting that one

it goes Original 40, super 40, delta 40 for loudness, original being the loudest. yes, stock piping, cats, and that tip is just slip fit over the existing tail pipe...didnt change the sound at all

whats the goal exactly with exhaust upgrades? whats the science behind it? that might help me decide the way to go...

It's actually a knock off from an exhuast vendor at a huge swap meet I looked at Magnaflows mufflers and it's exactly the same in every way except it doesn't have Magnaflow stamped on the body. The science behind upgrading your exhaust is to evacuate as much heat from the engine as quick as possible to have it run cooler, thus better mpg's, lower temps, etc...

okay so then do more pipes mean more evacuation? Do bigger pipes mean that you have more evacuation neccessarily?? I guess I have never really understood all this...........

Dual pipes over single means more air flow, bigger pipes in theory you would think is better but you have to keep in mind what kind of back pressure you need for your emissions system as well as what type of motor you're running and last but not least what mods you have done to the engine. I have 2.5" pipes from the high flow cat on back, factory is 2.25".

SO....single (stock) to 2.5 dual pipes. with a flowmaster original 40? I wonder what this would sound like.....

from what i've heard, larger diameter pipes on a v6 makes the engine sound ricey. i was talking to a guy with an explorer sport and he had 1.25" duals, no cats or mufflers, and it sounded very nice all the way through the rpms

omg I hate ricey sounds....Smaller it is then! And were the pipes straight back? and wtf does dumping mean?? so maybe....stock to 1.25 duals with the flowmaster. Idk...all trial and error I guess...

send a PM to Nharris, he has had several different setups on his ex. and dumps mean the exhaust is dumped usually before the rear axle and the tips turn down towards the ground
