Exhaust Questions?

I have a '98 explorer EB and i have a stock exhaust system on it. However, i want to change it to a dual pipe system with a new muffler. Are there any systems that are premade or do it have to have it custom made. Any price estimates?

what engine does it have? 4.0 ohv v6, 4.0 sohc v6, or 5.0 v8

I have a 5.0L v8 as well, and thinking of a dual exhaust set up. I want to get a trailer hitch first though, so they can build it around the hitch instead of me finding out I can't install a hitch because the exhaust is in the way...

Anyway, what size pipes would be good?? I plan on getting two Flowmaster super 40's and going with a true dual setup (because stock is two until after the cats, right?.. I can just keep it two with an X-pipe). Would 3" be too big? I plan on doing some decent mods down the line (75mm EGR & TB, custom intake tube, and a 75mm MAS with an open element filter, then cam and lifters, etc).

I'd say a little over 300 for a dual setup with some Flowmasters.

Silver - I wouldn't go any bigger than 2.5" inches on the pipe size if you're going the dual outlet route.

do u use one flomaster or do u need two? does the pipe that run from the engine go to one flomaster and then split into two pipes or does it split before and each pipe run into a flowmaster?

Guys, welcome to the site. Use the search function and you'll find a ton of info on this topic. Lots of guys on here have aftermarket exhaust. Some have two mufflers, most have one. Its pretty common to have single in, dual out exhaust, especially with the V6 engines.
