when i got my truck back from the body shop on friday afternoon, they had to put a new exhaust system on it. they took it to meineke, since its meineke's system thats used for a stock replacement application. my friend who owns the body shop said that my "resonator" was starting to rattle, so the next time im in town, i should take it back to the dealer, since theres like an 80,000 mile warranty on it.

now, he said "resonator", but im lead to believe that he really meant "catalytic convertor." the 80,000 mile warranty tipped me off, and also, my truck doesnt have a resonator on it (unless its under there and im just not seeing it.)

can anyone shed some light on this?

thanks.

I believe he's right. There should be a resonator. It's a can about four inches in diam about a foot long inline after the muffler. It should be just forward of the rear axle.

thats not there, heh. ive gone through a bunch of cat back systems, so im sure that the original resonator is long gone somewhere. i just had a new system put on, and its just pipes and the muffler, from the cat back.

This is my resonator.

Hope this helps.

mince had a new system put on a little while back, a stock one, and it came with a resonator.

im pretty sure mine doesnt have the resonator. i didnt climb under it this afternoon, i just looked under there and didnt see it.

you still might not have one since mine is a 91 and urs is a 98, i dont know if they had one then or not.

my 98 has one....

My explorer has a resonator that is tucked up where the pipe leaves the muffler and heads up over the rear axle-ish. It is after the muffler (cat- muffler-resonator). looks like a racing style muffler...about 2x the diameter of the pipe). just my 2 cents.

I was thinking about taking the resonator off the stock system to see what it sounded like (or maybe drilling it?). Has anyone done this?

if you drill it, you will lose back pressure and henceforth power.
