Exhaust Smell. How do I know CATs are bad?

I was reading that they changed at different throttle positions. Idle, WOT, Key in acc position

hrmm, well, would a shop be able to open that up?

those are my cats, theres no real way to open em up close enought look inside w/o cutting something it seems... (rather.. that 2 of my cats.. the other 2 are close to the headers) I dont know where the o2 sensor is.

I will be doing this check on my '93 XLT today and according to Chilton's for a '93 it is supposed to be 35-45 psi.

Is the later model pressure's different than the new models?

Yes, because starting in 98, the fuel system became returnless.
 






I have 127k on my exploder and I still have to original cats, 02 sensors, FPR....well you get the point. They probably need to get replaced, but I dont care enough about the truck to get them replaced...oh well. later
 






I was talking to my dad the other night about my truck and its delimas. Apparently whenever my truck is in its sluggish mode, it is very hard to stop. Infact yesterday I came to a stop on a hill (facing down) and with my foot to the floor it was still rolling. My dad said this could be linked to exhaust blockage? I assume because of vaccume? whatyall think?
 






ok, so now you've got bad brakes? if the cat was clogged (really bad) you would actually have MORE stopping power, due to the clogged cat increasing compression braking. sort of like a jake-brake on a diesel engine, only no were near as powerful. also, clogged cat will not lower vacuum @ idle or slightly over. there is still enough "openness" in the cat to let the engine idle properly.
 






brakes aren't even 1k miles old.. its not the pads/rotors at least. if anything its up at the booster/prop. valve/abs and all that crap.. if its a brake problem.. maybe its just in my head
