Heres a question for you guys. i have a exploer sport v6 4.0 i want to put a flowmaster 50 suv muffler and new pipes. i went to mineke and got a estimate on how much it would cost 2 run dual pipes out the back of my truck with a single muffler. he said i couldnt do it cuz the spare is in the way and so is the shock. kinda depressing =( i can only have a sigle pipe coming out instead and he gave me an estimate of $420 i think he ripped me. the only reason i asked for a estimate is cuz i wanted to run duals but since i cant i could just put it all on by my self but the problem is i dont know where to by the pipe and i dont have a pipe bender. Does anyone know where i can buy prefabricated pipe thats all ready bent for the modle of my trunk.

ps. i want to run new pipes from my cats back i have 2 of them

sounds like he's trying to make a few extra bucks, most of the old mustangs had dual exhaust running together all the way to the back, then just stretched the 'off' side over so you had an exhaust on each side. it actually caused a very slight imbalance because you did have one pipe 3 or 4 ft longer than the other, but looked good.

excuse me for asking, but I have never understood the reasoning to having a dual exhaust running out of a single muffler, I mean unless you get a siamesed muffler, (two seperate mufflers in the same housing) you gain nothing, other than looks, and lose a slight (very slight) weight advantage, also, being the kind that doesn't like to spend money on anything that doesn't make something better, what's the purpose?

Just my 2 cents worth...I put a single Magnaflow on my 4.0L V6 use the stock pipes from the cat back. Really helped my milage and sounds good. Did not go with the Flows because although they are great mufflers, they flow so well that you will loose some low end torque and they are loud, very loud not to mention they resonate terrible at about 55 to 60 in the SportTrac.
If you want that "get out of my way" sound from several blocks away, have them put on. As for the dual pipes, looks good but aren't really necessary as a good 2.5" system will flow plenty of exhaust for the 4.0L.

You'd lose too much in a 4.0 with true duals, the engine isn't big enough. If you're buying the muffler from them, the price seems to still be a little steep still. I was out shop scouting to see who I wanted to do my exhaust and got quoted over $600 from a Tuffy to do the job. Most of the places I talked to quoted me about $250 for install on duals (If I brought in my own 50 series). It is possible to run the duals with the spare in place, other people have done it. What I did was look up a bunch of pictures of the routing of different X's with duals and brought in the pictures to show the shops that it is possible to do it. I ended up purchasing a 50 series from Summit and had it installed for a total cost of $248 out the door.

I went to Meineke and they wouldn't do the job if I brought in my own muffler. Muffler Man around these areas are pretty good with doing exhaust jobs, they've always tried to work with me on whatever ideas I was thinking of.

They really don't offer much for prefab catback kits for the Sports. I would just buy the muffler the cheapest you can get it and have a shop install it.

Wait, $420 for a single exit is a rip off and a half. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for install of a 2.5" single exit, but find a shop that'll install your muffler and don't buy it from them, they're parts are upcharged through the roof.

i bought a flowmaster (50 series) cat-back system from summit for my 4.0. i want to say it was only $160 but i would have to dig the receipt out to tell you for sure. it took me about and hour to get it all together. (notice i didnt say how long it took to get it the old system off)

wait i just realized you guys are talking about a sport, mine is a 4 door
