I've got 143,600 miles on my 2006 V8 RWD. What do you think is the expected life of the 6-speed transmission?

I've got 10,000 miles on the expensive new tires and more recently spent $1,600 for a new radiator and transmission fluid change, so would like to get 10,000 to 15,000 more miles on it before selling it sometime in 2013 (I average 23,000 per year).

I know of two people who had the modular engines fail at about 240,000 miles.

My uncle who teaches auto mechanics at a local community college said that I can reasonably expect 150k miles out of the 6spd. Any more than that and you're "getting your monies worth" as he put it. Less than that if you tow often.

That's not good :) I got 147k miles on my 06 v8. I was hoping for 200k. I also clock about 22-23k yearly. I always say that the v8 and the tranny in mine are on vacation in my car since I have a light foot, change the tranny fluid regurarly, and since this is basicaly the same combo used in 09-10 F150 wherer it realy has to work hard, I am hoping for many more miles. Time will tell.

Who can replace the 6r60 besides the dealer ?

Thanks, mine is still 95% great, just sometimes going uphill it will jerk and I am not sure if it's torque converter, spark plugs, coils or the entire tranny.

205,000 miles and still going strong with the 6 speed and 4.6....

Wow, Steve-

that's great. What kind of service have you done on it ?

That I don't know as I just aquired the vehicle from a meticulous old man who probably had it serviced once. I do know from the maintenance records that he took it in for hard downshift and they flashed the computer!

How and where the Explorer is driven will make a big difference. Short trips in a city and/or towing cause a lot more wear than long-distance highway trips.

What sort of cooler does Ford fit to these? A good one definitely helps.
