Ive searched and never found a good description of the auto 4x4 system on a 99 ex 4.0 .. like how exactly the system works.. ie... the differences in modes 4auto ect.. how does it work in conjunction with the front axle is it a vac disconnect.. is there a way to trick it into a standard 2wd aplication instead of 4 auto..if not what selectable t case wold work to swap in preferably manual shift... also were planning on running a jeep hp dana30 in front how can i get everything working correctly with the jeep vac disco axle ... also i want to retain the 4w abs when we do the swap has anyone been able to do this or have an idea how...
links or explanations of any of these questions would be helpfull... thanks Zach

Hi Zach,
To quickly answer some of your questions: 4Auto is NOT a 2wd system, it is supposed to allow 2wd until it senses slippage, then "automatically engages" 4Hi, only to disengage when not needed any more. 4Hi is going to be a constant 4Hi, and 4Lo is just that, a lower gear that allows a slower/torqier crawl. If you would like a dedicated 2wd system, then look here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149388&highlight=4auto . As for Manual Cases, there is some good info using the "search" featre. Good luck on your project
