Explorer dies when AC/Defrost on

95 Explorer Eddie Bauer, when I run the defrost or on "automatic" the car dies. Has done it twice on the highway (not so safe), so I don't run it anymore. Will start back up after I tap on the relays under the hood (another common prob I have)... I think it may have something to do with the compressor. If I use "vent" only, does that make the compressor kick in? Does anyone know what may be causing this problem?:exp:

Compressor doent run on vent, sounds like ac compressor is seized up.

Thanks a lot!!! I was scared to run anything after it died in the middle of the interstate.

i had the same problem, the compressor was kickin on and making the idle rough and or die. It was low on freon, compressor was kickin on and off too much i guess. Recharged and is fine. Hope this helps
