I have a family friend that I'm helping out. He has a '99 explorer with 150000 miles. 4.0 pushrod automatic 4x4 xls model. It's eating plugs. (Auto lite platinum). About every 6000 miles, it will start skipping when cold and run fine once warm and progressively get to the point that it skips all the time. Pull the plugs and most will have a crack on the electrode insulator. Change the plugs and it will run fine for a bit. It has happened on all cylinders. Wires have been changed with the 2nd of the 4sets of plugs that have gone in. It's almost as if the wrong heat range plug is used but I have double checked that the plugs are what is supposed to be in it. Code has been "misfire cylinder # (# is different each time). Has anyone else ran across a problem like this????
