Hello guys - glad to have found this site.

I am putting a 5.0 from a 98 Explorer into my 1977 Bronco.

I then decided to swap the C4 for a 4R70W.

I did some research on ClassicBroncos.com and ColoradoClassicBroncos.com and everybody said to get one from a 98 - 00 Explorer with 5.0 as they had some upgrades.

So, went to the local pull-n-pay and rolled around in the mud to remove the tranny from a 2000. Got it home and found some tag numbers that make me curious if I got the right transmission or not.

The number on the tag is XL2P-7000-BA.

Please tell me the good news !

Thanks in advance !

To my knowledge the 4r70w was put in all explorers with the 5.0 from 95-01 with the only change being made in 98...

SINCE your doner truck is a 98, CONGRATS, you bought the SAME transmission.

Many improvements have been made to the 4R70W since 1993, the most significant was the use of a "Mechanical Diode" beginning with the 1998 models. Newer transmissions are referred to as 4R70E, 4R75W or 4R75E to differentiate them from previous models

-My bro Google

Yup, if it's from a 5.0 Explorer then it's a 4r70w.

What are your swap plans? I've been thinking about doing a swap using 100% of the Explorer stuff and not any Mustang stuff like guys usually do. Only because I think it would be trick to keep the DIS and have a computer that was designed for a 'truck' run the thing. Pics? :)

Thanks for the response.

I didn't do a very good job asking my question.............

The motor donor was a 1998. The tranny donor was a 2000.

I have seen the part number for this tranny identified as a 4R70W having come from a 2001 which I was told wasn't a direct interchange with the ones from 98 - 00.

I was hoping to confirm whether it is (or isn't) a direct interchange.

Thanks again.

nothing too exotic.

Explorer 5.0 with mustang computer and RJM harness / 4R70W with Bauman controller (made specifically for a 98 4R70W) / D20 with twin sticks.

Most of the real work is cleaning up all the rust on this old gem.

pics can be seen here http://www.coloradoclassicbroncos.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1058

what about your EB ?
