Hello to you guys and gals accross the pond ! I have an explorer in the UK.... it was a great car... I love it ...its big and goes through quite rough terraine (Wish it had coiled suspension on the back !) Early this year I put a tailor made BRC LPG direct injection kit on the 4.0 litre petrol engine. It saved me money, still went like a rocket BUT I now get consistent engine fault warnings and the engine is always cutting out at roundabouts or when I stop at junctions.... It also happens on petrol. Ford have failed miserably to help and the gas people say I need to find out from ford what the problem is before they will look at it.

Has anyone else had a conversion and did you have problems ! Some people have said that the ford computer cant handle the input from the LPG computers (2 !) and some people have said it could be the lamnar sensors.

Any input would help alot

 Stressed Ady !

I would start by doing some basic maintenance before I went replacing things.

The first thing you should do is get the codes read. You can buy a code scanner from a wesbite in the states somewhere and have it sent to you.

Also do these things.

1.Clean upper intake and throttle body with intake cleaner spray, wipe clean
2.Clean MAF thoroughly (do a search on this site)
3.Clean lower intake and valves with "Seafoam" or "Amsoil Power Foam"
4.Check and replace air filter if necessary
5.Depending on the mileage you should replace your 02 sensors.
6.Reset computer

Once you do those things, come back and tell us if it works.

Thank you

Dear Jason,

Thanks for your reply I will try these tasks. The only questionm I have is what is a code scanner and how do you read the codes once you have them ? Please excuse my ignorance !

Regards

Ady

A code scanner is a small computer you plug into the diagnostic port on your vehicle (under the dash). The code scanner will come with an instructiom manual that tells you exactly how to use it.

welcome to the board, Ady! What area of England are you from?

THANKS JASON

I actually did some homework and searched a few sites... so when Ford dealerships say they have done a computer check on your vehicle and charge you $90 for the priviledge , they have in fact just plugged in a machine that goes bleep !!!

HI TAXMAN

I am currently working and living just outside of Louth on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. I have been off roading for the last 10 years, mainly hunting and fishing but also some minor competitions. Its a bit tame over here..... I was in Vegas last year and did some serious Hummer driving in the dessert....now thats what you call fun !

Thanks for the welcome

Cheers

Hi guys,

I'm also beginner here, but have same problem then Ady. So please, let me know the sorce of this problem.

Cheers,

from info passed to me by seasoned mechanics, gas systems can sometimes damage your valve seals causing irrational idle and loss of power. brc systems are top of the range so I would doubt the gas system is at fault as long as it's been installed by a reputable company.

Hey Jason you need to do better research , the code reader is needed to fix DTC or Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Your truck should have OBD II or On Board Diagnostic II software. These programs cover every function of the power train including timing , fuel cooling and transmission controls also you can buy a code reader to do the check your self. Has the engine computer been re flashed to account for the change in fuel ? Is your check engine light on ? I know allot of people who think these code readers are not required however to really fix a problem you need to know what the system is recording as a fault and what is not working...Go to Amazon and you will see just how cheap these devices are , especially when just replacing parts did not fix your truck...
