I need to know where exactly is the thermostat in my 92 Ford explorer. Also instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

follow the upper radiator hose to the engine and that is where the T-stat lives, remove the upper hose from the t-stat housing and then the 3 bolts that hold it. Now replace T-stat&gasket then reassemble. ITS CAKE but be sure not to over torque the bolts on the housing when reassembling.

Not exactly cake on the 92... the tensioner sits right in the way.

AHHHHHH,,,thats right the surpintine belt and pulleys are set up different on the early years. Sorry forget the cake and get a few band aids for your knuckles instead.

something I noticed on my '91 when I replaced the t-stat....the previous owner had replaced it and put the gasket on the front. The correct way is to insert the t-stat into the gasket (so there is rubber on the front and rear - the rubber has a groove where the t-stat sits in the middle). It is held on with 3 bolts.

Helps to take off the fan also. But I found you dont' have to remove the radiator to remove the fan like some manuals say to.

Here is a pic to help orient you...

And make sure when installing the thermostat, you place the small hole in the base of the thermostat up. Take it from soneone who learned the hard way. Also, I was able to change mine without taking the fan and belts off. I only removed the air intake tube, however it is a tight fit for the hand.

When I change my thermostat, I like to remove the tensioner pulley (only held on by two bolts) to make more room for getting at the t-stat.
