I have a couple of questions. First, how many rpm's should my 93 explorer idle at? Mine idles at about 1050 rpm's. Also I noticed that one of my vacuum hoses was off and when I connected it to where it looks like it goes my car started idling very eratically. My camera is broke or I would take a picture so instead I will try to explain what this thing looks like that I was trying to connect the vacuum line to. It is at the top of the engine on the passenger side and it looks like a gas line goes to the top of it and underneath it a vacuum line goes to it. I was thiinking it was the fuel regulator but my car wouldn't run at all if the vacuum line wasn't connected would it? I'm thinking this is why my car idles so high but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanxs

There is a vacuum 'tree' located on the drivers side by the firewall. Make sure there aren't any open connections on the tree.

Idle at 600 when warm and between 1000 and 1500 when cold

600-750 in Neutral is normal for the 4.0L OHV.

Now that I know what the idle should be at can anyone tell me what that part is that I was describing in my original post. Like I said I DON"T have the vacuum hooked up to it because it makes it idle erratically. the vacuum tree has no leaks so I know I'm good there.

the only thing i can think of that your trying to describe is like you said ...the fpr .(round canister like unit with braided fuel line on one side and the bottom side of it had a small vac line going to it ) the only other item that can for see on that side of the engine that has a vac line hooked to it is for the climate contol system ( round oblong plastic tube that holds vac pressure) .

idle rough though you say ...i wonder if when you rec-connected that line and it started running rough that since the computer was seeing a vac leak it made the engine run in such a manner to correct the problem but when the line was back on the engine was still running the new parameters .

i wonder if reconnection of that vac line and disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes would reset the system to run with new parameters with proper vac pressure ?

I will try that and see if it takes care of it. Thanks alot! I'll let you know what happens

i know you said you had problems with your camera so i went out and took some with mine ...may help you help describe your problem .sorry for the big pics ...did not have time to resize them ...
