:roll: Hey does anyone know how hard it would be, and how costly to swap autohubs for manual lockers? Also, does anyone know what is causing this very annoying squeal from my manual transmission when I start from a stop? it happens at 1500 rpm and unless I get the rpms up to around 2000-2500 before letting the clutch out slowly, it doesnt work, and sounds like i dont know how to drive standard. Any clues?

Wan manual hubs with conversion the kit are about $200 and easy to install.. I've read (but don't know for sure) that you don't really need the conversion kit.. just buy a spindle nut set for a dana 44 and use that (maybe someone who is sure will chime in also).

I don't know about the manual tranny issue..

Your whine could be Serp Belt Related... I replaced the manual hubs on my Explorer first one took about an hour, second one took about 15 minutes. 200 bucks is about right depending on where you get them. I found about 5 different sets of instructions on how to replace them. Between them and the set that came with them It wasn't hard for me and I have never worked on a 4x4 before. Oh, and replace them before winter Auto Hubs seem to be worse when it is cold.

Manual hubs help with gas mileage? Can you elaborate a little, I'm interested...(?)
 






Manual hubs save no more gas than working auto hubs.. When the hubs are working correctly, they disconnect from the axle so there is no extra friction. If you have broken auto hubs (that are stuck locked.. which would be unusual since when they break the usually fail to lock), it is cheaper to replace them with autos and you will then be able to run in 4x2 low range.

Well that's what I was thinking, so I was a little confused by camaro_g's post
