My new 2017 XLT explorer rear air vents close by themselves when air is on full blast. Does anybody have that issue.

When we turn on the Rear AC the Vents CLOSE BY THEMSELVES. It is really annoying. If you crank up the Fan to cool off the rear, the Vents close by themselves. If you try and adjust the vents to direct the air anywhere but straight down, the vents close by themselves. Anyone else experience this or know how to resolve it? This makes it so the rear AC is almost useless.

I don't recall this being an issue, or may have not noticed.
If you push it open and when the a/c turns on, it closes automatically?

Yes the vents close automatically! Very frustrating.

This hasn't happened in either my previous 13 XLT or my 16 Limited ... but i don't run it at full (in the rear) all that often either ... more like 2-3 bars unless I have rear passengers and then it is short lived on full.

If you never want them closed, just stick something between one of the louvers to keep them open. Problem solved. Can't comment on mine since I'm the only occupant other than the dogs who occasionally ride back there on vet visits etc. Haven't heard any complaints from them.:D

My 2011 Ex rear vents in the roof do this - especially when the vents are turned a certain direction and the fan is turned up to full blast in the back. The trick is to turn the vents a little in a different direction. Also, if you close one of the other vents, that will force more air to the other vent and thus it will be more likely to close itself except if you turn it at an even more extreme angle. Play with them and you'll see what I mean.

I'm sure we have some "hydro" engineers up here who could better explain the physics behind this phenomom. I guess it's another weird thing - kinda like that rumble you get in the back of the vehicle when you ride down the street and open only a back window.

I encountered this issue as well but more on the 2nd row air vents.
At first, I thought the air vents needs to be replaced but I found a workaround which is to slightly rotate them to a direction where they will lock and handle the amount of air.

You can also try Peter's suggestion which I think is a great idea to solve the problem with your air vents.
