Explorer SAS or not for daily driver?

Im thinking about buying a 2nd gen Explorer and dont like the auto 4x4. How could I give it the same 4x4 operations as a ranger. Like 2high instead of constant on and off 4x4. Ill be using it alot on the road and was wondering how much of a difference in handling would the solid axle make? If I go that route I want to keep build as clean as possible! What I mean by that is I want to appear as if ford built it that way. Any advise is appreciated! I basically want a bad ass explorer thatll go from regular highway driving to weekend toy.

To disable the 4auto you would need go do the brown wire mod. Easy to do just use the search feature and yiu will find the post that has photos on how to do it.
