'92 4door 4wd XLT
OK, i know i want my cake and eat it too, I have a 92 4door x. I want to lift it a few inches for some more ground clearance. I dont' do much serious off roadin, but do lots of dirt road, mudd, snow, and ditch crossing. But i I dont ' want to change my ride to much, for this is my only vehicle.
Im leanin towards a Suspension lift becuase i think they alter the ride the least. I was lookin at the Skyjacker 2" lift, the one with addaleaf and coils. I haven't seen a 3 or 4" lift without jumping up in price and more difficult installation. Any help? I just don't want to spend a few hundred dollars for a 2" and end up getting sumtpin bigger in a year. Also what size tires could i fit under with 2" of lift, im runnin 31s now, could i get 32's under there, or should i stick witht the 31's, thnx.

If you want to keep the truck like it has always been riding except higher, I would go with some F-150 coil spacer and some warrior shackles to give you about two inches of lift and It wouldn't change your suspension at all. The SkyJacker kit replaces the front coil springs and has an add-a-leaf in the rear wich makes the ride a little more stiff. You might want to do that anyway because your springs might be getting a little tired by now so if you like the ride just the way it is right now I would go with the spacers and shackles. I hear the shackles are a lot easier to install too because you don't have to take the whole entire leaf out. Do a search on these things too, it's been talked about a lot and you'll find out more information. You might be able to fit 32's but I'm not sure. Again do a search to make sure. Oh and welcome to the site. Once you start finding out all the usefull information here you'll keep coming back again and again.

I got a 2' suspension lift with 31`s
32`s will rub the inner front fender on my 93 four door as it is now. Also I am told the spare tire well will only take up to 31" tire. I am installing a 2" body lift (MAYBE) to get bigger tires. Just having trouble with d@mn bolts not cooperating.

For the easiest lift to do yourself, I would agree with biggs85 and say coil and shackle.

I went with the add-a-leaf to stiffen up the saggy rear and didn`t get enough height. SO, I ordered some shackles to even it out.
Don`t forget, you need an alignment afterwards, which will add a hundred fifty to two hundred dollars to the project

Cheapest lift to do yourself would be a body lift, but it is not easy with old bolts. and I haven`t even gotten to the bumpers yet.
It`s discouraging...

how does the aal work in the rear the leafs are under the axel wouldnt that lower it ?
im confused

if got spacers and shackles on my truck...last owner did it and said it was good for about 2.5 inches of lift. Im running 32X11.5s and they only rub on the sway bars near full lock

$150 - $200 dollars for an alignment???? I got mine for $54 after my tt/ws. Guess thats livin in a small town.

The Explorer has a solid rear axle, therefore does not require a 4-wheel alignment alignment.

As to the cost, the first time an explorer recieves an alignment $150 is the appropriate ballpark as they have to put in a camber adjustment kit.

ok got it id50

Right on dreamr, it`s the camber adjustment kit that makes it more expensive, on the other hand, you could put that in yourself, line up the alignment roughly, then bring it in to the shop. it`s not hard to change the camber doo-hickeys.

Hey ld50, want to come south for some BBQ end of March????

Dixie's BBQ

March would be hard, savin for some metal to make some bumpers too....

Thanks for the invite tho` alot closer to wheel with xs than Moab that`s for sure! I`ll watch the thread but can`t commit now.
