We have had our 2022 ST for almost a year. Some days when you start it up cold it will emit a pretty good cloud of smoke. It's definitely oil smoke because I can smell it. The car is at 15,000 miles right now. But this is randomn, it doens't happen every time. It is unmodified.
My wife's Expedition had a very faint [I think, wasn't quite cool enough for it to be just stream] exhaust smoke when she left for work the other morning. Following.

I've been posting on this site for several months regarding rear brake noise after the 22R27 recall. No one on this site replied with same issue.
I posted on explorerst.org and received a reply from a member with two ST's both have same brake problem. I would invest in a cheap security camera and aim it at the exhaust to catch the blue smoke when happens.
I see you got some answers to your post already .......on the other site.
I meant to ask If ford warned about revving the engine before shutting off. I no longer have a turbo vehicle but remember my Volvo S60 24t warned about revving before turning off, could cause bearings to overheat. When I had my 2020 Explorer I don't recall seeing that in the ford manual.
White smoke on a cold start is steam. The smell may very well be from a rich mixture which is normal on a cold start. Whether or not the steam is visible is dependent on outside temperature and humidity.
My Ram would "puff blue" on cold start-up. Oil dripping down the valve stems while it's sitting. I replaced the valve stem guides when I replaced the valve springs. As for white "smoke", that's normal on cold-morning starts.

Assuming you live in a colder area, it's meant to smoke when a cold start and run rich on a cold start. If it's doing this in warmer weather, I'd have the dealer check it out since it's under warranty.
I live in Las Vegas. I will be taking it into the dealer soon. I was just trying to compare experience. This car is new, so the dealer can handle it. Just trying to compare if my car is unique or if others have had the same issue. The amount of smoke is not normal. It's a cloud. Not just condensation on start up. I just expect to be told they can't repeat the problem if I leave the car with them.

This is an issue that I have seen myself on our ST and others discussing this on another forum. The driver side turbo does seem to be the common cause of this now, with people being all set after it's replaced. I will be bring my to the dealer soon.

My 2022 ST does the SAME thing. I have taken it to the dealership 2x and they don’t find anything wrong with it. It smokes during winter time and this hot weather too. Almost every morning that I turn it on. It’s not normal. The dealership has fwd the info to main Ford headquarters since I had proof of the smoke on video. Still waiting to hear back.
Ours smokes on startup. Its also consuming oil, about 2 quarts per 15,000 miles. From my info its a Seal on the Driver side turbo. I just figured it was blow by. Edit: I should clarify its a good sized plume of smoke. engulfing the surrounding area on startup. Started around 10,000 miles from new.

Ok a final follow up and hopefully helps others. After taking in my 2022 ST for a 3rd time with multiple videos showing the smoke coming out and Ford headquarters input, they figured out the problem. They found that the coolant was leaking into the engine and that was causing the smoke on start up. My truck has been in the shop for 2 months (that’s another story) and is getting the engine replaced. It was such a new engine with little miles that they just replaced it with a new one under warranty of course. My truck was way to new to be smoking and to be told by Ford that nothing was wrong. I’m glad they finally figured out the problem!!
Thanks for the update Wendy. I thought we were through with coolant leaks into the engine with the 6th gen Explorer since the water pump is now once again mounted externally. I hope that this is just a one of a kind issue.

How long have you had the new engine? The smoke on start up went away? Coolant has a distinct smell usually. On another forum others also had the engine replaced but the turbos where not and the smoke came back. Hopefully that doesn't happen in your case. If it does, its probably the drivers side turbo oil seal.
