I have a 1998 explorer with a very noisy front end. I checked the sway bar links and they are very loose. Are they supposed to be loose? If so, are they hard to change out?

they should not be very loose. if they have not been replaced before then it is a good idea to do so. the original ford ones are plastic and junk. they are very easy to replace. i got mine at autozone and did them in about 30 minutes.

you should replace the end links anyways. but where they broken or were the rubber bushings missing? if not they probably wouldnt make THAT much noise.

check the tie rod ends with the car on the ground before you start

jack the car up check the ball joints also while your servicing the end links.

make sure you tighten the end links with the truck on the ground

With the car at normal rest, the bar should not be loose.
