Explorer Ticking Sounds upon Acceleration

Hey all I just bought a 1996 Ford Explorer with 167,x.. miles. Everytime I accelerate hard or soft it makes a pretty loud ticking noise that sounds like its coming from underneath the radio. It is the XLT 5.0 Liter V8 AWD. All help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I had this issue myself on my 5.0. Upon acceleration after a cold start I had a ticking noise. My egr tube was cracked and causing the ticking noise because it was leaking.

Ya its either that or cracked exhaust manifold. Its pretty common on these, usually passenger side.

Define ticking better. Are we talking ticking as in an exhaust tick? Or are we talking more of a click and you're front drive shaft joint is going south?
