- 1998 Eddie Bauer v8
Well I'm new looking to find a solution to my delama. It's a 98 xr Eddie Baurer.
Wife went to leave, heard a loud clunk (neighbors noticed it ). Now the rear end makes noise, like a metal scraping or grinding intermittenly. I didn't drive it till after checking for loose or broken parts under it, then jacked it up so wheels turned freely. Didn't make an unusual noise. So dropped it down took it for a spin turning back and forth, then could hear a noise of scraping. But only when turning for a few feet or more. Lifted it back up, dropped the diff cover to find not a lot to explain the noise. I found nothing out of place that could explain it. But the pinion gear has a chip in a gear and the spider gears look like they may have been ground on from the marks that I could see. The yoke pinion will turn freely then bind when turning it by hand. Wheels turn evenly, and LS clicks when u stop one wheel from spinnig by hand. Has any one ever experianced anything like that? Do I need a new rear end or tear it apart to replace everything in it?
