1997 Explorer XLT
Hello, i've used the post on these forums for repairs, diagnostics, and for exploring my explorer's many woes. Thank you for this site, it has helped a lot &/or pointed me in the rite direction. My 1997 Explorer XLT has 283,863+miles on it. I've performed all of the work done to it over the last 5 years, most of which has gone fairly smooth. I have learned a great deal along the way. It has no mods, it's all stock except for my stereo system an after market JVC head unit, 2 kicker sub woofers, 1000w competition amplifier run off a capaciter.

Welcome!
I'll bet it has the OHV 4.0 and not the SOHC.

Heh, exactly my question. I would be interested in that info also.

It's always great to hear about the high mileage Explorers. Welcome to the forum:chug:

Thanx it good to be here. My 97' explorer xlt 4.0 is the SOHC. I just put another 100+ miles on it today in mostly 105 degree weather. But I don't know how much longer it's going to hold up for. My check engine light is on & blinks mostly when I take off from a stop. I have changed the upper & lower intake manifold gaskets, had to replace a leaking thermostat housing, new alternator, new battery just in the last 2 months. Dang thing stalled on the freeway in 90° weather & it would start after about 20 minutes then stall again did that 3 times then no more. Had to call my roadside for a tow. This is the wrong place to post all of this isn't it? Only left new stranded one other time 2 years ago. Ended up being the harness for the inertia switch separated like 3/32" when I pushed it back together it started right up & no problems after that, except for a mild leak in my cooling system that I just fixed. Ok stop until I get errors where to post this.

Looks like RangerX loses his bet.
