So, I know i need extended brake lines. However I have a few questions about where to get them and how long of ones would i need? ive seen prices on a few offroad sites i know of from $8 to over $100! I would assume that the $100 ones would be entire brake line kit? id like to spend as little as possible but dont want crap either. I have searched the site and was not able to find anything. if i missed a thread with the same question then my appoligies. Oh and i guess it would help to know 4" suspension and 3" bl and sway bar will be disconnected.

One thing to watch out for.. the '92 only has rear ABS.. which means the drivers side line is "odd".. The hard line connects to a funky fitting.. That fitting has 3 connectors on it.. one to the hard line, 2nd goes to another hard line that goes to the passenger side.. 3rd is the flex line to the drivers tire.

At one tim eI was able to find/buy lines with that fitting.. I haven't for a while.. I actually took a factory line/fitting and drilled/tapped it (used npt) and then just used an extended flex line from a local speed shop.

Keep in mind if you make your own.. It won't be DOT approved AND npt fittings are not "supposed" to be used for brakes.. But I have it, and so does Cybergasm.. so far so good..

thanks, that is good to know, haha. id honestly prefer to just buy brake lines that would work. which is why i asked where to buy them and how long i would need. well either way i would like to know how long they need to be.

I'm not sure of the Ranger and Explorer non-ABS lines are the same, but here is what I did with my Ranger. 26" long, for a Chevy 2500, went on like they belonged. (one is left side, the other right side)

I brought up the odd fitting issue becuase most of the extended lines you will find are for a 93-94 only.. becuase of that fitting.. I haven't seen 91/92 ones in a while.

Zjrog,
do you have a pic of the drivers side connection.. Where it connects to the hard line? A pic of it installed is fine...

In this thread, 91exploreron37 used f-250 lines.. You can see in his pic how the driver side brake line has 2 fittings.. One on the top (goes to passenger side) and one through the shock tower which is from the master cylinder.

Here is a pic of the fitting I have on our X. I can't find one like this anymore so I just modify the factory fitting and drill/tap it for npt (blue part in the pic) which is basically what the fitting I bought was.

I have a 4" lift and got the Steel Brake Lines for a 6" lift... to give enough leeway paid 106.00 shipped to my door for complete brake lines... one per front and one or the back

But you have a 93.. On the 93/94 the front brake lines are basically the same.. So the Kits are easier to find and cheaper.. If those f250 or chevy lines would work that would problably the the cheapest "correct" way to do it.. If you don't mind NPT fittings (one) then you can get it done for $60ish in parts by getting steel braided long brake lines.. Nothing special about them other than length.. speedshops carry them.

What brand are they? and where do we buy them.. the 91-92's have been hard to find (some places list them, but they aren't correct).. It would be nice to have another supplier.. the more the merryier(sp?)

i got mine from Top Gun Customz they arent listed, you have to call and ask for them, they didnt list the rear sway bar links either, you just have to know what you want when you call. TGC is just the distributor but they were from ProComp

Youyou can see a brass adapter on one of the front brake lines in the pic from the above link. That is needed for the 91-92.. the 93/94 doesn't use that.. The brass adapter is a Earls part (Holley).. I've looked at using that part but I didn't like how far out it went.. which is why I just drilled a factory fitting.. I "might" even still have that earles part here.. if I find it I'll take a pic and post it.

I circled the part I'm talking about..

what do you mean by how far it sticks out? are you talking about how far from the frame or where ever it attaches? other then that part that you dont like, are those the correct parts that i need? i really didnt want to spend $100 but hey whats another hundred when ive already spent like $4000 :-|

Yes, unfortunatly i do know that. Which is why ive spent $4000 and not a few hundred to get similar results. Figured do it right the first time with name brand parts that are quality and not cheap thin metal that is going to break quick or whatever. :-) I was just hoping I could save a little bit somewhere... Guess not, oh wells.

Yes, it looks like the right ones for a 91-92 and for a 93-94 you just don't use that brass piece..

That brass piece I have circled is about 1/4" to 1/2" or so deeper than the fitting I have on our X now. Here is the pic of the fitting on our X (taken from post above)..

You can see that I have it pulled out some (so you can see all 3 fittings) but with the brass piece it would stick out through the mount a little longer than what I have now (or factory)

I can't tell for sure, but the procomp lines in the link above "look" like they might actually be lines from Earles which is what we use (Earls is a division of Holley). I know the fittings are from Earles as that is where I got mine from.

either way you go, good luck with the build and be safe!
