extra speakers wired in?

i have components front and rear in the doors but i also picked up two sets of rockford speakers that i would like to wire in my kick panels. fiberglassing and installing isn't an issue but i'm wondering about the wiring. right now i have the components in my door being powered off an aftermarket amp. what i would like to know is can i hook the speakers up to the my headunit? my first though is yes i should be able to use my headunit to power the 4 speakers i'm adding i'll just have to run new wiring from my head unit.

i ran RCAs from my headunit to the amp then speedwire to the back of the headunit where it ties into the factory speaker wires going to the components.

i love the bass i have in my truck but once iturn it up where i like it the mid/highs aren't where i want them. if you thing its not a good idea to add these new speakers or what not then let me know and throw in any ideas

This will work, because the speaker wires on the back of the head unit still work, they're just not used because of the RCAs. The only problem that i could conceive would be that since they will be un-amplified, you won't hear them over the rest of the system, or more the base because they'll be running at around 10-20w verses the rest of your system at 50+.

That's the problem i can see, however i'm not Audio savvy enough to think of how you would be able to amp them without getting another amp for them, and if that's the case, you may as well get a second set and run 4 speakers instead of two.

i already have 2 sets of components and i'm looking at adding 2 more sets of speakers.

I think it would depend on which HU your using as to whether your regular speaker wires will still work if your still using the RCA's for the components. I know that for Alpine HU's it says in the manual that if your using the RCA component output that the regular speaker wires will be powered off. I'd say that depends on the HU though.

I'm thinking you could use a passive crossover after the amp and use that to split the power between the speakers though.

i have 4 Ga. power/ ground wire to the amp that is pushing my components now so maybe i will just split everything to push a second amp. i have too many amps at home to remember what i have but i'm sure i can make something work. maybe i'll just go that route. i was kind of worried that that would happen with the HU but wasn't sure. i just bought a JVC KW-AVX820 headunit so i'm gonna try the new headunit then play around

Yeah, I'd try it, but if I had extra amps laying around I'd probably go that route.

Couple ideas...

Maybe your amp could handle the lower ohm load, if you wired the fronts and new speakers in parallel? Wiring them in series would be an option also, but that might lower the amp output. Mixing parallel and series on the fronts to keep the ohm load might be an option also.

Since you don't hear the rear speakers as much, run those off the head unit. Run the fronts and kickpanels off the amp.
