I was sitting in traffic for 45 mins solid today with the truck in neutral at idle. After about 38 minutes i start to hear this "tone" constant woooooooooooooooooooo lower in frequency. I pull over and trace it to the intake tube. while the truck was running i opened the air box and lifted the tube up and could clearly hear a lower tone howling from the intake side of the airbox as it was sucking air. it seems to possibly be more towards the intake than the airbox, but there are no obstructions or leaks in the tube and i can clearly hear it within the tube, not externally aside of the resonating it's doing.

it is that one perfect tone that resonates just right to annoy the hell out of you. My intake hasn't changed in any way, and nothing has ever been done to the truck it is perfectly stock. Strangely though this occured after a lengthy idle period and now it's driving me nuts. any ideas???????

mine does that also when the truck has been running for quite some time.

Defiantely IAC. Try cleaning it. If that doesn't work, replace it.

Yup! It's the IAC. Just replace it. It's pretty cheap to replace.

Wonderful, thank you guys! I've been experiencing rough cold start idle and fluctuating rpm at startup, i guess this would also point to that? I cleaned the mass airflow sensor and it didnt seem to do anything positive.

Yep, time for a cleaned or replaced IAC with all those symptoms....

If you give it gas and it goes away, its the IAC.

(from the other thread)

works for me, that's my problem and as everyone said i'm going to try and clean it and plan on buying a new one soon. Thanks for the good info. (big thumbup)
