okay help me out if you can...

on the solid axle swap page, somebody mentioned that the bolt pattern on the backing plate/axle flange for an f-150 is the same as the EXPO. said they were both big bearing 8.8's with 31 spline axleshafts.

my question is: is this a for sure thing because my schedule rarely allows for walks in junkyards to measure things out, i have to have them pulled. also what year f-150??? i really dont care about keeping the abs in tact. i'm gonna start here since my rear brakes need help anyways now and i hate to spend the money twice. i will do this first then work on lifting and the front axle :)

:hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

To the best of my knowledge the F-150 has 5x5.5" bolt pattern.
I can and will again be wrong again.

depends on what year f-150, the new (97+) are 5bolt 135mm. Trust me, I just bought new wheels for mine that are now for sale, LOL.

The F150 swap only makes sense if you have done a solid axle in the front. 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.

ummm misunderstood?? :)

yea that original post was confusing as hell. let me try to clarify

talking about the axleHOUSING flange and not the axleshaft.

okay i'm GONNA do the front solid axle swap but i'm gonna do the rear first i KNOW that the f-150 has the 5-5.5" LUG pattern what i am concerned about is the axle houshing flange that connects to the brake drum backing plate...

the drum for the f-150, with the 5-5.5" lug pattern is bigger than the explorers right? i want to know if it is physically possible to use the whole f-150 drum brake assembly??? from the backing plate to the drums. my question is simpy will the four bolt holes on the backing plate of an f-150 match up to the four holes on the expos axle tube??

also i know not a 97+ but possibly a 90-96 maybe??

thanks sorry i'm confusing:confused:  :p :banghead: :banghead:

yes if you use a 90-96 I am 99% certain that my dad's 92 uses the 5-bolt 5.5". I can check tonight though, he's got a spare wheel sittin in the garage, I'll just measure it.

Yes this is correct. When I got wheels for my Jeep and my old F150 thats what I used.

As far as the F150 drums bolting up I am not at all sure but I would guess they would. If not I dought it would be all that hard to make it work. I would guess if they don't all you would need to do is fab up a new backing plate and get that welded on.

UH, why?

Sorry Im jumping in here late, but why would you go through the trouble of getting the 150 brakes - just for the wheel bolt pattern ?
Why not just swap in a late model axle with the discs and redrill the hub if you need the 5 on 5 1/2".

Just trying to understand.

Or better yet, why don't you get late model f150 disc brakes...

honestly COST! he he

trying to do this cheaply at first leaving room for improvement later

plus the rear brakes on my expo are shot right now and rather repair them i would rather spend the money on bigger/better even if they are drums

i guess i will just sneak under a 90-96 f-150 at a dealer this sunday when they are closed lol

thanks guys
